Vivian Leigh is a plantation owner that watches everything she holds dear to heart start to disappear. It won 8 Oscars and is a beloved movie by many.
- "The Patriot" (2000) This movie stars Mel Gibson and focuses on the American Revolution. Mel Gibson plays a father that leads the Colonial Militia after his son is killed by a British officer. It also stars Heath Ledger and was directed by Roland Emmerich.
- "Platoon" (1986) Focusing on the Viet Nam war and its horrors, this movie stars Charlie Sheen, Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe. It was directed by Oliver Stone and is about a new recruit that faces his own personal crisis with morality during the war.
- "Born on the 4th of July" (1989) This movie stars Tom Cruise and is a biography of a Viet Nam veteran, Ron Kovic. After becoming paralyzed in the war, Ron becomes an advocate against the war and protests for human rights after he feels that he was betrayed by his own country, the country he fought for.
- "Thirteen Days" (2000) This is the story of the Cuban Missile Crisis that took place in 1962 and how the president, John F. Kennedy, Jr. handled this delicate situation during that time. It tells the story of how things almost came to a head and how the United States could have been hit by nuclear weapons. It stars Kevin Costner and Bruce Greenwood.
- "Pearl Harbor" (2001) This American historical movie is about Pearl Harbor. While it focuses mainly on two friends and the girl they both love, there is plenty of information about D-Day and what transpired. It stars Josh Hartnet and Ben Affleck.
- "Saving Private Ryan" (1998) This film focuses on WWII after the Normandy Landings and how one group of soldiers must sneak behind enemy lines for another soldier whose brother has been killed in action. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Tom Hanks and Matt Damon.
- "Glory" (1989) This historic film is all about the Civil War and the first entirely black Union regiment. It stars Matthew Broderick, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman.
- "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940) This film starring Henry Fonda was about the Great Depression and the Midwest Dust Bowl that happened in the 1930's. It focuses on Americans that left Oklahoma for a better life in California and weren't wanted once they arrived.
- "Roots" (1977) This film was a television mini-series, also available as a movie on a DVD box set. It is about colonial America and slavery. It starred Louis Gosset Jr. and LeVar Burton as slaves in the 1700's.
